Harold J. Kennedy, a cherished father and devoted friend, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, in Lenexa, Kansas, just days after celebrating his 87th birthday. Born on August 26, 1938, in Walnut, Kansas, Harold brought a vibrant spirit and an unwavering kindness to all who knew him.
A proud veteran of the US Navy, Harold dedicated part of his life to serving his country, a commitment he carried with honor and humility. After his military service, he embraced the joys of everyday life, frequently indulging in his beloved hobbies of hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening. These pastimes not only provided relaxation but also created cherished memories with family and friends, moments that will forever echo in the hearts of those closest to him.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Kay Kennedy.
Harold's legacy will continue through his loving family. He is survived by his daughter, Julie Hoerl (Jerry), and his sons, Mark (Lynne) and Scott.(Jamie) along with 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Their lives have been enriched by Harold’s steadfast love and encouragement, shaping them into the individuals they are today.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in his honor on September 13, 2025, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home located at 14275 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, Kansas. The service will begin at 10:00 am. A graveside service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Rd., Lenexa, KS. To conclude, a luncheon will be provided at the Lenexa VFW Post #7397 located at 9550 Pflumm Road, Lenexa, Kansas.
As we remember Harold, we hold dear the kindness, wisdom, and laughter he generously shared throughout his life. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
