Gerald Francis Lee, 78, passed June 22, 2026 , surrounded by the love of family.
Gerald, “Jerry”, was born December 18, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to Bervel and Alvina (Lipovitz) Lee. He grew up in the East Bottoms and Raytown with two older sisters. Jerry attended Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School and De La Salle High School. He graduated from Rockhurst College in 1975 with a degree in Business Administration.
He served honorably in the US Army from 1968-1970, stationed at Fort Hood, TX. He was awarded an army commendation medal for meritorious service.
Jerry worked hard his whole life to provide for his family. He spent the majority of his career in the federal service, working for the VA, EPA, and USDA. In 1985 while at the VA, he received the agency’s highest award, the Award of Valor.
On July 9th, 1976 Jerry married the love of his life Sue, and they treasured over 47 years of a happy marriage. He was a dedicated, caring father to Stephanie, Megan, and Meredith. A father of three girls, Jerry loved having three grandsons Brady, Gavin, and Cooper, and later welcomed having another grandson Luke and granddaughter Lindsay.
After retirement he enjoyed being a grandfather and always prioritized supporting his family. He was encouraging and so proud of all of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. His many interests included science, history, reading, woodworking, Royals baseball, college basketball, K-State football. He passed on his love of nature and spent many a fun trip to the zoo with family.
Beloved Dad, strong and determined, warm and generous. May you and Mom rest in peace together.
Preceded in death by his wife Susan, his parents, his sister Glenda Kohler. Survived by daughter Stephanie Lee, her husband Scott Coatney and their son Gavin of Chandler, AZ; daughter Megan Maresh, her husband Ian Maresh, and their children Brady, Cooper, Luke, and Lindsay of Olathe, KS; daughter Meredith Lee and her husband John Lewis of Phoenix, AZ; sister Judy Thomas, and a beloved extended family.
