George Dwayne Worley

August 31, 1944 — September 20, 2022

On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, George D. Worley, passed away peacefully at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Linda. George was born to George and Lillie Worley on August 31, 1944, and raised in Grandview, Missouri.

George was known for his hard work ethic which he developed at a young age. While attending high school, he would work nights as a typesetter for the Jackson County Advocate, then attended his classes during the day. Throughout the summer months, he hauled hay for farmers all across the Jackson and Johnson County area. The money he made, paid for his first hay truck at the age of sixteen and sparked an entrepreneurial spirit in him.

George was a great athlete. Being 6'4" tall, he loved to play basketball and baseball, and participated in track, but he had a real passion for the game of football. As a fullback in high school, he was nicknamed, "Mr. Inside." George was offered full-ride scholarships to play football by all Big Eight universities before deciding to play for the University of Kansas in 1962. While at KU, he played both offense and defense.

He was a talented artist, had a quick-witted sense of humor, and loved to hunt and fish. George also grew to enjoy reading scripture and loved the Lord.

On April 7, 1962, George married Ruth Ann Nelson in Miami, Oklahoma. They were married for 35 years. Together, they were blessed with five children, Susan Jensen (Lorin), Tamara Bailey (Brad), Cristi Mansker, Travis Worley (Nichole), and Josh Worley (Lauren), 17 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

George would often say, "Anything worth doing is worth doing well." He applied this belief, along with hard work and determination, to build his own successful business in the transportation logistics industry; creating many business friendships with shippers, truckers, and railroad executives. George was well-known in the industry.

On August 31, 2002, George married Linda Trogdon in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. George's step-children include Sheri White (Dan), Rick Trogdon (Jenn), Nikki Sentelle (Rob), and Angie Jacobson (Paul), eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lillie Worley, and sisters Kathryn Worley and Jean Thompson. George's siblings include Kathryn Worley, Glayda O'Neal, Jean Thompson, Nancy Worley, Wanda Phillips, and Gary Worley.

The Worley family would like to thank Kansas City Hospice House as well as all of his doctors, nurses, and technicians with the Cardiology, IR, and CICU teams at Saint Luke's Hospital for their wonderful skills and service as well as Linda for her devoted care of George the past three years. He deeply appreciated it. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, in the chapel at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home located at 14275 South Black Bob Road, Olathe, Kansas.
