Garry Lynn Hauer

Garry Lynn Hauer, 73, passed away peacefully in his home on July 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born on April 6, 1953 in Harrisonville, Missouri, Garry lived a life defined by hard work, generosity, and a deep love for the land. He graduated from Louisburg High School in 1971 and quickly began building the foundation of what would become his life’s work.

Following graduation, Garry and his brother, Leland, founded Hauer Brothers Sod. In 1974, Garry and his wife, Cindy, established Hauer Turf Farms, growing the business from the ground up with determination, grit, and an unwavering work ethic. Together with Cindy and later their son, Brett, Garry built a thriving family business that remains strong today. To Garry, hard work wasn’t just something he did—it was a way of life. His “whatever it takes” attitude allowed the business to prosper and inspired everyone who knew him.

Garry met the love of his life, Cindy, while they were in high school. They were married in 1972 and shared 54 wonderful years together. They raised two children, Brandi and Brett, who were his greatest source of joy. Nothing brought Garry more happiness than spending time with his five cherished grandchildren: McKenna, Delaney, Braxton, Keily, and Hudson. He loved watching them grow and took immense pride in each of them.

Garry is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy Hauer; his daughter, Brandi Guetterman (Ryan); his son, Brett Hauer (Jeananna); his grandchildren, McKenna, Delaney, Braxton, Keily, and Hudson; his sisters, Glenna Windisch and Donna Westhoff; his twin brother, Larry Hauer; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Hauer; his father, Glenwood Schlotzhauer; and his brothers, Leland Hauer and Karl Hauer.

Garry’s legacy lives on through the family he loved the farm he nurtured, and the business he built with integrity and perseverance. His devotion to his Faith is something he instilled in his children & grandchildren and lives on through them even in his passing. He will be remembered as a man with a strong as Steele exterior, heart of Gold & complete disregard for material possessions. His wife Cindy described him as a strong-headed German whose determination, strength, and steadfast spirit left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will be held on Friday July 24, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 8:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Black Bob Rd., Olathe, KS.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday July 25, 2026 at 10:00 am at the Hauer Barn, 15176 W. 267th St., Paola, KS  66071.  Burial will be held at the Bucyrus Cemetery following the funeral services.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions can be made payable to Ascend Hospice.
