Frank Quiring, 91, of Overland Park, Kansas, entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 22, 2023, while at his home surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.
Frank was born on October 16, 1931 in Cimarron, Kansas, to Frank and Katherine Ratzlaff Quiring. Frank was one of six children. The Quiring family enjoyed many years of farm life in the community of Newton, Kansas.
Frank graduated from Newton High School in 1949 and went on to obtain his Bachelor's degree in Education from Bethany Nazarene College in 1954. He later obtained his Master's degree in Administration from the University of Oklahoma.
Frank met the love of his life, Joan Helen Richardson, while in college. They married in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1950. After he graduated from college, Frank began working for the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. His first job was on the Navajo Indian Reservation, near Gallup, New Mexico. Over the course of his career Frank had various educational and administrative positions across the United States; his last assignment was Dean of Students at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. He retired in 1984 at the age of 53, after 30 years of service in higher education administration.
Frank and Joan welcomed three children to their family: Lynn (Shelly) Quiring, Cynthia Chamberlin, and Susan (Mark) Larson. Their greatest joy was most assuredly the role of grandparents to Ryan (Mary), Chase (Nichole), Scott (Stephanie), Bryant, Nicholas (Allie), and Kaitlin.
Frank and Joan lived in Lawrence, Kansas for many years where he enjoyed cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks and playing golf. They moved to Olathe, Kansas in 2001, and later to Overland Park, Kansas.
Frank was a life-long member of the Church of the Nazarene, where he faithfully taught Sunday School, served on the church board, and volunteered in a variety of capacities wherever needed. He attended College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas during his later years in life.
He loved God. Frank demonstrated an unwavering testimony to God's grace and pursued his Christian walk with steadfast intentionality, dedication, and perseverance. Others were drawn to his radiant warmth and gentle joy.
He knew God. He often read his Bible during the night hours when he couldn't sleep and had recently re-read the entire Bible. He enjoyed studying biblical archeology and learning about the historical context of scripture. He saw the Bible as a Living Word for his life. He read a vast array of books and was always interested in learning; he pursued knowledge. He welcomed new ideas and unique perspectives.
He praised God. During hard times and seasons of goodness, he never doubted God's faithfulness and presence. His favorite song included the simple words, "God is so good…" It was his life motto.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Katherine Quiring, his wife Joan, his daughter Cynthia, his sisters Betty Sawrie and Rose Rogers, and his brother Don Quiring. He is survived by his sisters Marcella (Bob) Stahly (Newton, Kansas) and Erma Prentice (Bethany, Oklahoma), his son, Lynn (Shelly) Quiring of Queen Creek, Arizona, and daughter, Susan (Mark) Larson of Overland Park, Kansas, as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held by the family on May 27 in Newton, Kansas.
