Frances Lee (Mcclaflin) King

May 1, 1938 — December 12, 2023

Frances Lee (McClaflin) King, 85, passed away on December 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 1, 1938, to Glen and Georgia (Wilson) McClaflin in Indianola, Iowa and was blessed to be part of a large, happy family. At the age of 10 her family moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she was raised with traditional values and taught the importance of family. She enjoyed relating fond memories of her childhood on Valley Drive including her pony Ginger, her first car, a Ford Falcon, and being a majorette.

After graduating from Lincoln High School and while working at Iowa-Des Moines National Bank she was introduced by co-worker and life-long friend Mary Helms to her future husband, Thomas Michael King. They were married on May 31, 1963. Through sixty years of marriage, they made their home in several places before settling in Kansas City, Missouri where they lived for the past 30 years.

Her family was her world and she made sure all were abundantly cared for throughout the years. She took great pride in her yard and flowers, and always kept a beautiful, welcoming home. Her family never knew a day without her love.

After her children were raised, she returned to the workforce as an Executive Secretary. She was always a valued employee and cherished friend.
Frances is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas, her daughters Kelli (Greg) Pesch, Kristen (John) Jorgensen, Karen King and Katherine (Richard) Henderson, her granddaughter Tonya (Justin) Walston, her grandsons Ryan and Garrett Henderson and her brothers Jim (Bonnie) and Rex McClaflin, in-laws Ida Carpenter, Janice McClaflin and Gerry Swartzbaugh as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Doris Burford and Ramona Porter, and her brothers Bill McClaflin, John McClaflin, Dean McClaflin and Paul McClaflin.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Frances' family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Kansas City Hospice House who cared for her with such tenderness, respect and dignity.
