Ellen Ann Sylvester

Ellen Ann Rudick Sylvester, born to her parents John and Mary Rudick of Archbald, Pennsylvania passed away on April 16, 2026, in Olathe, Kansas.

 Born on September 27, 1955, Ellen grew up in Archbald, PA and moved to the Kansas City area in 2004 with her husband Michael. She was known by those close to her for her kind spirit, her love of watching football, and her steadfast devotion to her husband.

 Prior to her retirement, she served as an assistant director and pre-school teacher in the Olathe community. Ellen’s career path was sparked by a simple but profound moment during a visit to her nephew’s children’s day out program. Watching the pure enjoyment and excitement on the children’s faces, she felt a clear calling to nurture that same spark in others. This experience became her guiding light, inspiring her to dedicate her life to early childhood education and the development of young minds. Her impact on her students was profound; many parents remained fond of her and stayed in touch with her long after their children had left her classroom.

 Ellen was preceded in death by her father, John Rudick, and her sister, Linda Rudick McHugh. She is survived by her mother Mary O’Brien Rudick of Pennsylvania and her loving husband, Michael Sylvester of Olathe; her stepdaughter, Alicia Baughman and son-in law, Travis; and her two cherished grandchildren, Aria and Hunter of Dillsburg, PA.

 She also leaves behind three siblings; Debbie Paloucci (Tony), and their children, Dominick and Brittany; Joneene Bowen (Barry) and their children, Seth and Eden; Maureen Armstrong, (Jack) and their children, Johnny and Josh - all of whom reside in Pennsylvania.

 Ellen’s warm hugs and gentle nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

 Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation and memorial service on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home - Olathe Chapel (14275 S. Black Bob Rd, Olathe, KS 66062). Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by the service at 11:00 am.

 In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in Ellen’s honor.
