Douglas Cleon LeMon was born in Brigham City, Utah on August 31, 1935; and he passed away on May 4, 2026 in Kansas City, Missouri. His family celebrates his life, which was filled with selfless service, loving kindness, and gentle wisdom.
Doug’s childhood years were spent in Brigham City and Salt Lake City, Utah, with his parents Cleon Ebray and Margaret Linton LeMon, where he followed after and adored his older brother Milton Dean LeMon.
He met his eternal sweetheart, Carol Anderson, in the LDS Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, between semesters from his dental schooling in Kansas City, Missouri. A short month after their meeting, on August 28, 1961 they were married in the Salt Lake Temple. Doug studied biology at the University of Utah and dentistry at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. He earned his doctorate of dental surgery in 1964 and practiced dentistry in South Kansas City for 30 years. Doug and Carol lived in Missouri, Utah, and Kansas.
Doug and Carol raised an outstanding family together including three boys and three girls: Jeffrey Douglas LeMon, Michele (Jeff) Stitt, Lori Ann (Brian) Memmott, Jon Milton (Gina) LeMon, Wendy Sue Jones, and Steven Paul (Denise) LeMon. These children have blessed their parents with 14 wonderful and beloved grandchildren.
Doug was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He diligently served in many church callings and responsibilities, including Youth and Scout leader, High Councilor, Stake Presidency Counselor, and Stake Patriarch in Independence, MO and Alpine, UT. He served in the Southern States Mission as a young man and later served in the Las Vegas Mission with Carol. He and Carol also served missions leading the Employment Center in Independence, MO and the Family History Library at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. In addition, Doug compiled a comprehensive history of the growth of The Church of Jesus Christ in Greater Kansas City. Doug had a great commitment to studying the Word of God; he loved to live and teach what he had come to know. Over the years, he mentored hundreds of youth and adults by bearing testimony and by quiet example.
He was a great source of strength for his family. He was first of all a devoted husband and beloved father and grandfather. His wife adored him and his children call him valiant and steadfast.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Milton, and his eternal companion Carol. The 63 years they spent together were filled with fidelity, unity, and love.
Thirty years after his heart doctors told him he had only 10 years left to live, Doug’s resilience, cheerfulness, and willingness to trust God and endure to the end is the legacy he leaves to each of us. His family would like to thank the staff of Saint Luke’s Hospice for their loving care during the past year.
