Listen to Obituary

Douglas William Clark, lovingly known as Big Doug, was born to Louis and Arlene on September 14th, 1947. Doug passed away on August 31st, 2026, in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Doug was born in Oakland, California, and moved frequently while growing up, including spending two years in Bogotá, Colombia. After graduating from River Dell High School in New Jersey, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Washburn University, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He later earned his master’s degree from the Keller School of Business.

Doug followed in his father’s footsteps by joining Shell Oil Company. While working in New York City, he met Doris, his future wife and the love of his life. He built a 40-year career in the oil industry, forming lasting friendships with many customers and coworkers along the way.

Doug was outgoing and quick with a joke, and his infectious smile brightened every room. His flair for entertaining was evident even in high school, when he starred in the musical “Damn Yankees.” He also had an enduring sweet tooth!

Doug enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams, joining his son on Boy Scout adventures, and traveling across the U.S. for his daughter’s soccer tournaments. Later in life, he spent his free time making stained glass, riding his motorcycle, playing golf with old and new friends, and occasionally sharing a cigar and bourbon with friends. Most importantly, he loved traveling the world with Doris and their close friends of 53 years.

Doug’s greatest accomplishments were the love and loyalty he shared with Doris throughout nearly 56 years of marriage and the family they built together. He was a devoted father to his two children and took immense pride in all they achieved. Doug also cared deeply about his community, supporting and volunteering with the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. An avid sports fan, he cheered for the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs, and he and Doris held season tickets to KU Jayhawks basketball for many years. He was also a member of the Church of the Resurrection.

Doug is survived by his devoted wife Doris Clark, son Brandon Clark, daughter Christy Roark (husband Adrian), older brother Ron Clark, younger sister Judy Clark, and his grand puppies Milo and Maddox. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the American Red Cross. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the abundance of love, support, and kindness extended to them during this difficult time.
