Dorothy Arlene Nelson, of Olathe, Kansas, entered eternal rest on June 4, 2026. At 90 years of age, she experienced a full life that included five generations. She was a sweet and loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.
Dorothy was born in Granby, Missouri on March 14, 1936 to Homer Dewey & Grace Brenneman. She attended school in Louisburg, Kansas. On August 8, 1955, Dorothy married James Richard Glaze. That union created 3 beautiful daughters, Barbara, Sandra & Deborah. Later in life, on September 17, 1981, Dorothy married Charles Edward Nelson.
Though her vision for her future was to be a beautician, life had other plans. She was a very social and caring person and found great joy working as Manager at Salvation Army Thrift Store in Olathe, Kansas. All her life she loved gardening. She also loved working jigsaw puzzles and doing diamond art. Her favorite hobby was crocheting. She loved to crochet baby blankets or personal throws and made many beautiful ones as gifts for family and friends.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; a grandson, Zachary Heston, and her brother, Don Brenneman.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Barbara Staley (Jim) of Olathe, Kansas, Sandra Dillon (Dan) of Fort Scott, Kansas and Deborah Wilson (Gerald) of Paola, Kansas; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Radley; several nieces, nephew and other relatives.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dorothy's memory to Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas.
