Dorothy Opal Haney, a beloved figure in her community, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, in Leawood, Kansas, at the age of 93. Born on June 16, 1932, in Louisburg, Kansas, she lived a life marked by dedication, resilience, and a deep love for her family and community.
Dorothy graduated from Louisburg High School in 1950, where she laid a strong foundation for her professional journey. She furthered her education at Central Business College, which equipped her with the skills that would define her long and fulfilling career. For 36 years, Dorothy served as an Administrative Assistant for Kansas City Power and Light, where she was known not only for her competence but also for her warm spirit and willingness to help others.
Outside of her professional accomplishments, Dorothy had a passion for gardening. She took great pride in nurturing plants and flowers, finding joy in the beauty of nature and the tranquility it brought her. This love for gardening was a testament to her nurturing personality, reflecting her approach to life and relationships.
She was a member of Colonial Presbyterian Church, and was a member and Past-President of the Quarter Century Club.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Phil Steger and Tommy Haney, three brothers and one sister.
Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and dedication. Her contributions to her workplace and the time spent with friends and family will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. In celebration of her life, her family and friends honor the values she cherished and the love she shared throughout her remarkable journey.
