Donald Robert Alexander, 75, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026. He was born on May 9, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri to Douglas and Gwendolyn Alexander.
Don met Vicki Cole while they were both working at Sears. He would say that she was the “sweetest thing he ever saw”, maybe because she worked in the candy department. They were married in 1975 and their family became complete upon the adoption of their daughter Ali. He loved his girls deeply. Family was of great importance to Don as he was a devoted son, brother, husband and father.
While working at Sears, Don served as a reserve officer for the Overland Park Police Department. Upon leaving Sears, he spent the next several decades working as a facilities maintenance technician. Eighteen of those years were spent at Overland Park Baptist until he retired in 2017.
Don’s love for the Lord was evident. He served his church faithfully every Sunday as the sound man for the music ministry among other responsibilities. He never knew a stranger and he was always making those around him laugh. Don was known for his love of coffee, spending time in his workshop, and being the fix it man. In his retirement, he enjoyed quiet mornings on the front porch, soaking in the sunshine, and spending time with his beloved wife of 50 years.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Doug and Gwen Alexander and his brother, Doug Alexander. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Alexander, daughter, Ali Alexander, brother, Dave Alexander (Rosemarie), sister, Debbie Classen, and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests for a visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Overland Park Baptist, 11648 Antioch Rd, Overland Park, KS 66210, with the service following at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Don’s memory to the Overland Park Baptist Music Ministry.
