Dennis F Murphy, 83, of Olathe, passed away on May 19, 2022, at Olathe Medical Center.
He was born on August 13, 1938, to Floyd and Laura (Sauvain) Murphy in Omaha, NE.
Preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, Arthur and Edna Sauvain in Woodbine, Iowa and his favorite aunt Doris Murphy Sauvain Woodbine, IA.
Survived by his loving wife, Judy (Nolin) Murphy, his sons, Todd, Curtis, Craig (Gale). Grandchildren, Alexa, Connor, and Luke of Olathe, KS.
Double cousins Bob (Sharon) Sauvain Woodbine, IA. Richard (Mary) Sauvain Colorado Springs, CO. Roger (Mary) Sauvain Council Buffs, IA.
Nephew Steve Nolin, Nieces Edie Crevoiserat, Jane Kaldahl and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dennis served our country in the US Navy from 1956 to 1959, aboard the USS Franklin D Roosevelt before being honorably discharged.
On October 31, 1959 he married Judith Arlene (Nolin), and they made their home in Olathe, Kansas.
Dennis Received his Associates Degree in Fire Science from JCCC. He enjoyed an extensive career in Fire Service. Serving as Firefighter, Captain, Asst Chief, working his way up to Fire Chief of the Olathe Fire Department. As Fire Chief he was instrumental in designing the current Public Safety Building. After retiring from the City of Olathe Fire Department, he went on to serve with the Richards-Gebaur Air Reserve Station fire department.
Dennis treasured his family, loved his three sons and cherished his three grandchildren. He was proud of Alexa's work as youth director at Hope Chapel, and Connor and Luke for following in his footsteps, pursuing their B.S. in Fire Science.
He was a member of Lenexa Christian Center (City Center Church), where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He loved making coffee for everyone before choir practice. Known by choir members for his unique way of saying "LINE UP CHOIR" before entering the choir loft.
As a devout Christian when Jesus called Dennis answered.
