Listen to Obituary

Debra Sue Nevergall, born January 6, 1953, in Emporia, Kansas, passed away suddenly on February 3, 2026 in Overland Park, Kansas. She leaves behind a family who cherished her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her mother Betty Ernest, her father Gene Pennington, her stepfather Lloyd Ernest, her brother Randy Pennington and her beloved dogs Chester, Che-Pa and Mitsy.

Debra is survived by her devoted husband, whom she lovingly called Rollie, and her son, whom she affectionately called R.C. He was her only child, but never a lonely one. She ensured that his life was rich with attention, encouragement, and steadfast love. She volunteered at his school, embraced his hobbies, watched his favorite shows and movies with enthusiasm, and stood as his constant advocate, always determined that he be treated fairly and given every opportunity she could provide.

Debra devoted most of her life fully to her family and her home in Olathe, Kansas. Previous favorite homes of hers include Kingston Cove in Wichita, KS and Barton Springs in Austin, Texas. In her earlier life she attended the University of Texas, Austin and worked at Cessna, Beechcraft, Motorola and IBM.

She was an adventurous and gifted cook, forever searching for new recipes, experimenting in the kitchen, and delighting in sharing her creations with her family. She loved to celebrate, insisting on making every little holiday special and even choosing days of the week to celebrate. She loved discovering new restaurants and often enjoyed taking her family out to eat, especially when they could take their food to go and enjoy a picnic at a beautiful park.

Debra was a talented artist, particularly with painting, and found joy in creativity and beauty. She was an avid gardener who delighted in flowers and hummingbirds. She treasured regular walks with her family and especially cherished trips to Kingston Cove in Wichita, KS and Beaver Lake near Eureka Springs, Arkansas, where some of her happiest memories were made.

She was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. Always prayerful and steadfast in her faith in God and Jesus Christ. Sentimental and tender-hearted, she was generous and indulgent with those she loved. She helped her family through many trials with strength and compassion. A devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals, she celebrated their victories and mourned their defeats with the same enthusiasm she brought to all of her life’s little joys.

Debra was deeply saddened by the passing of her own mother, and now her family carries that same sorrow in losing her. Yet her love remains woven into the lives she nurtured, the traditions she created, and the home she so faithfully tended.

She will be remembered as Mom, the name she cherished most, and as a woman whose creativity, warmth, faith, love and light filled a life well lived and left her family deeply grateful to have known her.

No services will be held at this time.
