Dean R. Rothermund, known affectionately as "Deano," passed away on August 31, 2024, at the age of 80 in Olathe, Kansas at home. Born on September 6, 1943, in Omaha, Nebraska, Dean's journey through life was marked by dedication, skill, and the love of his family.
Dean proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1969, with a tour in Vietnam, a period during which he honed his technical skills and commitment to service. After his military tenure, he embarked on a successful career as a Computer Engineer with Fujitsu Corporation, where he continued to apply his methodical mind until his retirement.
A man who could fix anything, Dean's knack for tinkering was well-known. He found joy in repairing broken items, often seeing it as a challenge rather than a chore. His hobbies included bowling and engaging in fishing contests with his grandson, Carson. Activities that brought him much joy and relaxation. His favorite lake for fishing was Melvern, and the good fishing spots are a big secret!
Dean is survived by his beloved wife, Edie Rothermund; his children, Brian Rothermund, Christy Jahnke (Brian), Tammy Wethered, Debby Olson (Craig), Kathy Woelfel (John), Rick Bullock (Catherine) and sister Diane Harper (William); along with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who brought immense happiness to his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Helen Rothermund, his grandson, Kyle Renfrow, and two dogs Gizmo and Cujo.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Olathe Animal Shelter, 505 E Sunvale Dr, Olathe, KS 66061, an organization close to Dean's heart. Dean's legacy of precision, patience, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
