David Keith Wells, 78 years old, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026 at the University of Kansas Hospital.
He was born on September 8,1947 in Charleston, WV to John T. Wells and Leitha M.Wells.
He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV in 1965 and attended Piedmont Bible College in Winston-Salem, NC until he was drafted into the United States Air Force in 1970. He served honorably during the Vietnam War. While in the Air Force, David used his free time to volunteer with local churches and work with Missionaries while stationed internationally.
David retired from AT&T/Lucent Technologies in 2001 after 17 years of service. He retired again from Honeywell in 2014 after 13 years of service.
David was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Together they raised 3 children to adulthood. David navigated parenting like a champ, attending school concerts, Little League baseball games, taking the family on fun vacations, graduating from high school, walked 2 daughters down the aisle and supported all 3 children, 2 sons-in-law and a granddaughter through fervent and regular prayer.
David also thoroughly enjoyed his role as "PaPa". He and his granddaughter would regularly play various imaginative games, build legos, have tea parties, and color. He would go to school lunches, attend elementary music concerts, and Grandparent's Day with much pride and enthusiasm.
David battled cancer for 15 years. He never let cancer define him. When he was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, his words when walking out from the doctor's office was "God's got this.” His life verse was Psalm 27:1-2. David knew from the beginning he did not have to fear cancer. His desire was for his life to be a testimony of "The Goodness of God.” David and his wife had 1 request of the Lord and that was to reach the 50 year wedding anniversary mark. The Lord answered that prayer and Dave and Dee celebrated 50 years of marriage on November 8, 2025. PRAISE THE LORD!!!
David was a gifted vocalist and musician, singing tenor in weekly church choir, Christmas cantatas, and singing in the senior choir, Heartsong. David was also a talented sound technician, participating in and leading Media Teams at various churches. He found great pleasure in maintaining a lush garden with a variety of vegetables every spring and summer. He also enjoyed model railroading, aviation and fixing just about anything.
He is survived by his wife, Delores Wells, his daughter Renee McDaniel, husband Tim and granddaughter, Madiline, his son, Jeremy Wells, and his daughter, Karen Lowe, husband Matt.
