D. Jean Altnow

Doris Jean Altnow, lovingly known as Jean, was born on July 20, 1941, in Topeka and passed away peacefully at her home in Olathe on May 15, 2026. 

Jean found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved knitting and crocheting, cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs, traveling, spending time with friends, and getting lost in a good book. She will be remembered for her warm heart, kind spirit, and the love she shared with those around her. 

Jean is survived by her children, Monty Zimmerman, Jim Zimmerman (Sherri), Denise Mayer (Pat), and Cody Zimmerman; her sister, Jody Proper, and her sons, Mike Sterrett (Christie) and Mark Sterrett; her grandchildren, Alex Kovarik (David), Amanda Zimmerman (David Casey), Nichole Mayer, Jessica Mayer, McKenzie Harris (Austin), and Quintin Zimmerman; as well as six great-grandchildren who brought her great joy. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie J. and Cecile F. Heard, and by her son, Kirk Zimmerman. 

Jean’s family and friends will cherish the many memories they shared with her and will deeply miss her presence in their lives.
