Carleen Young

Carleen Young, 88, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away Monday August 31, 2026. She was born on August 31, 1938 in Nashville, Tennessee to Clyde and Lillian (Rogers) Fields.She entered Heaven on her 88th birthday.

Carleen graduated from Hume- Fogg High School in downtown Nashville in 1957. She trained to be a manicurist and worked in beauty shops in local department stores. 

Her best friend invited her on a double date in Feb., 1957 with her boyfriend and his best friend Lynn Young. Lynn was serving in the Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. They fell in love right away. They were engaged in June and married that December 14, 1957. They lived in Fort Campbell, Kentucky until Lynn completed his service.

They moved to Topeka, Kansas and started their family. In 1962 they moved to Kansas City and eventually to Roeland Park, Kansas raising their three children. 

Carleen enjoyed cooking and sewing, especially quilting. Sharing quilts with her family brought her joy. 

Carleen was proceeded in death by her husband Lynn. She is survived by daughter Tammy Smale, David Smale and sons Mike (Penny) Young and Jim (Jennifer) Young, grandchildren David Lee (Rebekah) Smale, Julie (Erich) Braden, Emily Young, Noah Young and Maizie Young, and great grandchildren Coraline Braden, Renley Braden and Amelia Smale.
