Betty Louise “B’Lou” Wright-Wadsworth went home to heaven on Resurrection Day, April 5th, 2026 at age 93.
She was born on November 17th, 1932 to L. Glen and Marie K. Jenkins-Wright in Bonner Springs, Kansas. Her older brother, Glen Jr., passed away in 1989.
Betty Lou/B’Lou grew up in Bonner Springs and graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1950, where she excelled in academics (National Honors Society, 3rd in her class) and social/service aspects (Yearbook editor, select choral groups, head cheerleader, lead in senior play, numerous “Highly Superior” state vocal awards, etc.).
During her college years at University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) she worked as a professional soloist at Roanoke Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo. It was there that she met and married F. Eugene Wadsworth in 1953. Gene preceded her death in 2009.
Betty/B’Lou graduated from UMKC with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education and Voice in 1954. She and Gene lived in KCK and Prairie Village as their family expanded with the birth of Mark, Amy, and a stillborn baby girl, Janine Louise. As they raised their family, Betty/B’Lou sang professionally in the KC area and was a member of and served as President to Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI- professional musicians sorority), and member and served as President of Musical Arts Club. She also taught music in a variety of schools, and taught private voice and piano lessons through the years. B’Lou was the assistant activity director for a local nursing home for several years as well.
Betty Lou/B’Lou leaves her son Mark (Dotty) and daughter, Amy (Michael). Her grandchildren Christina, Rachel (preceded her in death in 2020), D’Ann (Brian), Cara (Will), Adam (Hayley), {Mark’s Children}, and Shane, Alaina (Daryll), Kayla (Levi), and Tegan (Lauren) {Amy’s Children} will always treasure their time playing and taking piano and/or voice lessons with their Grandma Betty Lou. B’Lou also leaves 16 great-grandchildren.
B’Lou leaves some wonderful friends and caregivers at Sage Grove (formerly Benton House) of Olathe as well. The loving attention and sweet patient friendships that B’Lou experienced there was unmatched and priceless. The family appreciates them all so much.
Thank you also to Ascend Hospice for their care and commitment to B’Lou as she bravely faced many challenges.
The family will have private services and interment will be at Bonner Springs cemetery.
“He who hears My Word and believes in Him who sent me…has passed from death into life.” (John 5:24 NKJV)
