Betty Ann Porter, age 83, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, in Overland Park, Kansas. Betty brought warmth and love to everyone she encountered.
Betty was born on September 26, 1941, to Herman and Helen Criswell in Columbus, Ohio. She pursued her education at Ohio State University, where she spent two years studying Physical Education. She was very active throughout her life, with a particular passion for golf, but also participated in tennis, bowling and bridge leagues.
Betty was a dedicated wife to her husband, Robert “Bud” Porter, whom she was married to for over 64 years. Betty and Bud enjoyed 25 years of retirement together and shared their passion for golf spending many days on the greens between two country clubs in Illinois and Florida.
She was a devoted mother to their four children: Chris Schebler (Bob), Bob Porter (Lisa), Sherry DeWall (Dave), and Mike Porter, and grandmother to Jon, Steven, Rich, Bobby, Joey, Josh, Justin and Madison. She was fortunate to be a great grandmother to Scarlett Ann, Ward, Noah and Mila. Betty is survived by her sister Jackie Ervin (Chuck).
Throughout her life she embraced her role as a homemaker with grace and commitment, creating a nurturing and loving environment for her family. Betty was always committed to the communities she called home, volunteering for many organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Junior Service League and Stephen Ministries, among others.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on March 15, 2025, at Village Presbyterian Church on Antioch, located at 14895 Antioch Road, Overland Park, Kansas. A meal will be served immediately following the service.
As we remember Betty, let us honor her enduring spirit, love for her family and friends, and the joyful memories she created throughout her lifetime. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Village Presbyterian Church on Antioch, with the memo “Betty Porter Memorial”.
