Bernadine (Babe) Whitacre, 98, passed away on June 13, 2025 in her home surrounded by family.
Babe was a beloved wife and mother. She dedicated her life to her family.
In the late 1970's, she began volunteering as a secretary at St. Paul Catholic Church. In the early 1980's, she became an employee of St. Paul as secretary/bookkeeper until 2000 when she retired. After retiring, Babe remained actively engaged in her community by volunteering for the church, the local hospital, and the public library.
Babe loved reading, toe-tapping music, puzzles, crocheting, and traveling with friends and family. She was always up for a road trip!
She demonstrated unwavering kindness, patience, love and a gentle manner, yet had a disarming sense of humor. She made life brighter for everyone around her.
Even though she is gone, her impact on everyone who knew her will remain.
Babe was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, her son, Pat, and three siblings.
She is survived by her children, Mike (Mary Kay), Tom (Nancy), Jeri (Greg), Tim (Maria), Kathy (Kirk), Lynda (Mike), 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul Catholic Church Capital Campaign, 21650 W. 115th Street, Olathe KS 66061, or to Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, 9720 W. 87th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212.
