Barrett Monroe Ballinger, age 54, passed away on September 26, 2026. He was born on October 31, 1971, in Brainerd, Minnesota, and later made his home in Olathe, Kansas.
Barrett was a beloved father to two sons, Blake Ballinger and Brysen Ballinger, and a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Dixie, Elan, Ravena, Noah and Owen. His family meant everything to him, and the love he had for his children and grandchildren will continue to live on through them.
Barrett was free-spirited, fun-loving, and full of personality. He lived life to the fullest, embracing it on his own terms. A devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, Barrett especially enjoyed tailgating, attending Chiefs games, sharing good food, and spending time with the people he loved. For him, football was about more than the game—it was about the excitement, the laughter, the food, and the people gathered around him.
Barrett had a natural talent for cooking and was an amazing chef. His passion eventually led him to opening his own restaurant, BB’s Grill in Spring Hill, KS followed by a second location in Olathe, KS with the help of his son Blake. Together, they shared Barrett’s love of food with the two communities. Cooking was more than a profession for Barrett; it was one of the ways he showed people that he cared.
Barrett is survived by his loving mother, Shirley Lusk; father, Floyd Ballinger; son, Blake Ballinger, wife, Ellie, their children, Noah and Owen; son, Brysen Ballinger, wife, Holly, their children, Dixie, Elan, and Ravena; sister, Roxanne Rankin, husband, Phillip, and their children, Trey and Easton.
He is also survived by his sisters and their families: Judy Ballinger and her children, Heather, Krystyna, Robyn, Miles, and Deliah; Amy Ballinger and her children, Bert and Kai; Jennifer Ballinger and her children, Nolan and Alessandra; and Megan Ballinger and her children, Andre and Tyler.
Barrett was preceded in death by sister, Rosie Boyd. He is survived by Rosie’s children, Jake, Sage, and Dove.
Barrett leaves behind memories that will remain with his family and friends, and his life will be remembered in the stories, meals, football games, and moments shared. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him.
