Alfred A. Hostmeyer, 86, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025. He was born on September 30, 1938 in Breese, Illinois to Alfred and Julia (Kuzcka) Hostmeyer.
Alfred grew up in Beckemeyer, Illinois. He attended Breese Community High School where he played basketball. Right after graduation he joined the Air Force and served for four years until 1960. He met Theresa and they were married May 4th, 1963. They settled in Olathe, Kansas where he was an air traffic controller for over 31 years and then became an instructor after his retirement. His other passions were farming and gardening, which he did for over 50 years. He coached youth basketball for many years and really enjoyed attending his grandkids’ sporting events. He was a member of St. John Paul II Catholic Church and he volunteered with the “bread runners” group for 14 years. He loved the outdoors, traveling to Alaska and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Theresa (Kuhl) Hostmeyer, children, Thomas Hostmeyer and Beth (Al) Tolman, grandchildren, Melissa Hostmeyer, Sarah Tolman, and Matthew Tolman, and siblings, Marilyn Grapperhaus and Ruth Kampwerth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Julia Hostmeyer, and his brother, Ronald Hostmeyer.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 9:00-10:00am on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe with Mass following at 10:00am. Private burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Alfred’s memory be made to St John Paul II (Olathe, Kansas) building fund or the American Diabetes Association.
