George Anthony Carroll was born in New York City on April 21, 1915 to John Carroll of New York City and Margaret Dougherty Carroll of Ireland. Educated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Grammar and High School, George also spent several years at a small Catholic Preparatory Seminary in Pennsylvania. Moving to Binghamton, N.Y. to be with his sister and one brother, George lived there for several years before enlisting in the U.S. Army in March, 1941. Serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, George was discharged as a sergeant in December, 1945 and returned to New York where he married Elizabeth (Betty) Reilly of Astoria, Queens, N.Y. on October 26, 1946. George worked for several companies before taking a partsman job at Long Island Lighting Company in Hicksville, L.I., N.Y. where he remained until his retirement in 1970. Their first son, George Joseph, was born on August 16, 1947 and second son, Charles Thomas, on December 6, 1949. In August, 1955 George and Betty moved to Bethpage, N.Y. where they lived until 2001.
