John Edwin Weatherford
1947 - 2023

John Edwin Weatherford, 75, of Stull, Kansas, passed away on January 27th, 2023 at home
surrounded by his loving family and was received into the arms of his Savior.

John was born on August 25th, 1947 and was raised in Olathe, KS. He later moved to Stanley, KS
where he graduated from Stanley Rural High School in 1965. John attended Kansas State University
and UMKC. He was married on January 27th,1968 to Kathleen Joanne Pratt. John started working for
Chemagro Corporation and then transitioned into the construction industry where he worked for
Pittman Construction and then became co-owner of Southside Construction and later, Weatherford
Construction. He worked many years in construction as a pipeline contractor to provide for his
growing family. He fulfilled his childhood dream by owning a farm and raising cattle. He loved to
smoke meat, competed in BBQ competitions and opened Big Bubba’s BBQ. Later he worked as a
construction inspector for the City of Overland Park. After retirement, he enjoyed his time on the farm
with his beautiful bride and their ever-growing family.

John’s family and faith in Christ were central to his life and God blessed him with more than a quiver
full of children, including those he welcomed in as his own. He lived out his faith through hospitality,
generosity, and serving others in and through the local church. John served as an elder in three
churches, and helped start two churches in Olathe, KS. One of those churches was Olathe Bible
Church, where he served and led for nearly 30 years. John taught Sunday school, sang in the choir,
headed up evangelism programs, and worked as a youth leader for over 20 years. In his later years,
he led men’s bible studies and was a small group leader at Fellowship Bible Church in Topeka, KS.
John leaves a rich legacy to all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathy Weatherford; his children, William (Karlye) Weatherford,
David (Jessica) Weatherford, John “Michael” (Julie) Weatherford, Stephen (Amanda) Weatherford,
Amy Weatherford, Aaron (Emily) Weatherford, Anna (Jeffrey) Cannon, Laura (Rodney) Kenner, Kristin
(William) Brooks, Mark (Jessica) Weatherford, and Sean (Penny) Gest; as well as 33 grandchildren,
