Lois Kirkman, 42, of Olathe, Ks, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. A Memorial Service will be held on August 12, 2022, at 11:00 am, at the Olathe Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 15915 W. 143rd Street. Her survivors include her father, Tracy Dean Kirkman; her Grandma, Connie Kirkman; her siblings, Paul Hunt, Deborah Davis (Patrick), Neal Jeffers, Rebecca Kirkman, and Elizabeth Kirkman; her uncles, Warren (Carolyn) Kirkman, Danny (Patty) Kirkman; her cousins, Zack Kirkman and Ezekiel Kirkman; her nieces and nephew, Melissa and Jared Hunt, Reeves, Reece, and Loren Barnes, and Seth and Sarah Jeffers; her great-nephew Blaine Swanson. She was preceded in death by her mother, Orita Kirkman, her grandparents, Paul and Bernice Powell, her grandpa, Larry Kirkman, and her great-nephew, Braxton Swanson.
Lois Irene Kirkman was born on July 20th, 1980. She had many challenges associated with her Down Syndrome but had a warrior spirit. She would often defy doctors’ expectations of her. She participated in the Special Olympics and received medals. She graduated from Olathe North High School.
Lois grew up with a loving family that cared for her. She was especially close with her Grandma and her sisters. She had a special bond with Grandma and was by her side 24/7. She looked forward to her sisters coming home and spending time with her. Lois loved being with her family and loved getting teased by her uncles. She was known for her loving and sweet spirit. She melted the hearts of all those around her.
Lois also had a spunky side where she would often play tricks and pranks on her family members. She would often wake her sisters up by turning on the light switch and then running away giggling. Her giveaway was a sly grin, and her family would know that she was up to something.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved going to church and shaking people’s hands. Ward members loved her and often saved newspapers for her.
Lois was passionate about looking at the Kansas City Star each day. She was a movie buff and would have a favorite set of movies she would watch daily. She would spend her time scrolling through her Kindle and reading her Berenstain Bears and Little Critter books. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and her birthday. She loved opening presents and would keep her birthday candles by her all year long. She was quick to remind everyone about her birthday.
We know she is happy to return to her Heavenly Father's presence and be reunited with her family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Special Olympics- Click Here to donate.
