David Dwain Kite, born June 25, 1952, passed away on August 3, 2022, after a 9 month battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Madison, Texas to Mary Glass Kite and Dwain Rayne Kite. After a short stint in St Louis, the family moved to North Kansas City. He graduated from Oak Park High School in 1970 and proceeded to the University of Missouri. In 1973, he obtained his Bachelors degree in political science. He then received his JD from MU three years later. He had a short career in law, but his heart wasn’t in it. He later pursued work in mortgage customer service. He always defended the little guy, the underserved, and those that needed a little extra help.
For much of his life, David resided in Columbia Missouri. In 2008 he returned to the Kansas City area. He met his sweetheart, Laura Gagliano in 2009, and they’ve been together ever since, living in Olathe Kansas. In sickness and in health, they shared all of it. He suffered through a bout of prostate cancer in 2016, resulting in a hip replacement. He came back from that and seemed to be doing fine. The pancreatic cancer was not related to the prostate cancer, but having fought a similar battle once before, his body just didn’t have the stamina it once did.
David loved travel, especially his trip to Disneyworld. Even though it was a one time trip in 2015, he maintained an ongoing relationship on the Disney Touring Plans chat site, providing them with a song of the day. He loved music, particularly the rock and roll of the seventies, while barely tolerating the disco of the 80’s, much to Laura’s dismay. One of his other past times was genealogy, learning about his Irish heritage.
He leaves behind his partner in life, Laura Gagliano, her two sons Michael (Overland Park, KS) and Anthony (Centennial, CO); his sons Ben (wife Amy) and their two children, (Cincinnati, OH); and Dan, (Columbia, MO) from his marriage to Pam Ellis Kite; and a sister, Donna Kite Senn, (Utica, MI).
We would like to thank the Olathe Medical Cancer Center and Phoenix Hospice for their care during this time. They were the best.
A celebration of life will be held in the future.
