John McDonald Obituary

John C. McDonald was born July 23, 1937 in Detroit, Kansas the son of Morris and Thelma (Peck) McDonald. He grew up in the area graduating from Chapman High School. He then received his bachelor degree in education from Emporia State University and his Masters degree in education from Kansas State University.

John spent his career in education as a math teacher and principal in Salina, Concordia, and Jamestown, KS; and later as superintendent in Remington and Valley Center School districts. He also served as president for the Emporia State Alumni Association. He enjoyed woodworking, playing pitch, golfing, and playing guitar.

On May 29, 1960, he was united in marriage to Ina Jane “Janie” Carpenter in Emporia, Kansas.

John passed away at home, peacefully in his sleep, on June 25, 2022.

He is survived by his loving wife Janie of 62 years sons Patrick McDonald and his wife Nikki of Olathe, Kansas, Paul McDonald and his wife Kristine of Overland Park, Kansas, sister Marilyn Robbins of Topeka, and three grandsons Wyatt, Owen, and Jackson McDonald. He was preceded in death by his brother Carl McDonald and his parents.

Memorial services for John will be held on Saturday, July 2 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe, (14275 S. Blackbob Rd, Olathe, Kansas). Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 pm with the funeral service starting at 2:30 pm with Pastor Phil Fischer officiating. A reception will be held in the Marvin Room at Silvercrest at Deer Creek (13060 S Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas) from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
