He graduated from Huntsville High School in 1964 and Birmingham Southern College in 1968. He subsequently worked for NASA in Huntsville, then for the EPA in Kansas City until his retirement. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederich Wilhelm Brandner and Anne Marie Brandner of Wagrain, Austria, and his son, Paul Michael Brandner of Olathe, Kansas.
He is survived by his wife Glenda Popejoy Brandner originally of Huntsville, Alabama and brother, Walter Brandner of Birmingham, Alabama.
