Casey James Finch, 38, of Overland Park, passed away unexpectedly on May 7, 2022 at his home.

He was born on March 7, 1984 to Douglas Finch and Patricia Pierson in Lincoln, NE. He graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School and went on to attend the University of Kansas where he received his BS in Biochemistry and Microbiology. He subsequently attended Yale University graduating with his Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and was awarded the Dean’s Prize for his thesis.

On May 2nd 2015, he married Lindsey Spedding in Casey Key, Florida, and they made their home in Overland Park, Kansas. Casey and Lindsey were inseparable, best friends, and soulmates. They traveled all over the world together and spent every night talking for hours. They were fortunate to have an amazing marriage, partnership, and life together. It was always "Team Lisey” (Lindsey plus Casey), and their bond was unbreakable. They tried new things together, loved to cook special themed meals with friends, and last week even did their scuba certification together. They each pushed each other to do more, live life to the fullest, make every day count, and lead their lives with love, fun, and making memories.

Casey was above all a wonderful father to his three children. He spent all his free time with his children and nephews, giving them the gift of not simply time together, but quality time. He enjoyed spending summers with his kids boating on the lake, and spent hours with them doing Legos, going on nature walks, fishing, reading, traveling, and riding bikes. His son Ray, born on May 28th, 2012, loved doing Cub Scouts with his dad, bike riding, and building Legos. His son Warren, born March 11th, 2016, loved playing video games with his dad, fishing at the lake, and taking rides on the back of his bicycle. His daughter Meredith, born November 8th, 2017, loved snuggling with her daddy at bedtime, coloring pictures for her dad, and reading stories together. His nephew Scott shared Casey’s love of food and they enjoyed doing the KC taco trail together and watching Stranger Things. His nephew Brett shared that his most special memories with Casey were going to Mexico together and riding bikes.

Casey had many amazing qualities, but what he was best known for were his positive attitude, exuberance, and love of life. He had a disarming smile that would light up the room. He had a zest for life; his stories and eternal optimism drew you in. He had a natural gift to prioritize what mattered. He put his love into his passion and his passion was his people. He was full of silliness, love, joy, laughter, and definitely a little bit of mischief. Casey had the most unique spirit and made everybody around him feel like the most important person in the world. He was the epitome of a family man coaching numerous sports teams and leading both of his son’s Cub Scout dens. He was so passionate about his kids, his family, and his friends. Casey loved to travel and experience new things. He was an avid runner, biker, skier, and weightlifter.

Casey was known for his esoteric intelligence and being great at everything he did. He loved to read. He loved to learn. He knew every current event and was the king of random information. He could school anyone in trivia or Trivial Pursuit, and was a jack of all trades. He could juggle, speak Spanish, ride a unicycle, play the guitar and drums, and do a million other things. If there were one person who could become enthralled in a lecture about 16th century Mongolian poetry, it would be Casey Finch.

Casey loved his life, his family, and making others happy. He will be remembered through his beautiful children, his infectious happiness, and the light he brought into everyone’s lives. So many people are described as having a life well lived; Casey lived a life well loved. To those who wish to honor Casey, do so by loving your life every single day. Seek happiness. Seek fun. Seek making your life and the lives of those around you better.

Casey served our country in the US Air Force and the US Navy for 9 years before receiving his honorable discharge. Casey served in Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Seabee and spent 6 years in the Navy. He was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force and ended his military career as a Captain, where he spent his time battling infectious disease and managing the medical group. Casey spent his civilian career in the healthcare field and most recently worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a healthcare consultant.

Casey is survived by his wife Lindsey Finch, and their children Ray (9), Warren (6), and Meredith (4), his parents Patty Pierson (Dan Pickerill), Doug (Betsy) Finch, sister Valerie Finch (Chris Buchholz) and their children Averan and Braith, parents-in-law Ray and Rhonda Spedding and Barb Warren and Carrol and Claudia Scott, sister-in-law Heather (Steve) Lesher and their children Brett and Scott, grandfather Dale Finch, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Casey is preceded in death by his grandparents Betty (Loftis) Finch, Margaret (Brunkow) and Kenny Pierson, and Hazel Turner.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 22nd at 1:30pm at the Historic Post Office in Ottawa, KS (122 E 2nd St. Ottawa, KS 66067)
