In Memory Of
Doyle W. Wesley
1955 - 2022
Doyle grew up in the small town of Attica IN. He was active in his youth, swimming, walking, and as an adult spent time hunting deer. He played the guitar, and had a beautiful singing voice. Doyle was a good-hearted man; he had a big heart. He was kind, gentle and often had funny responses that made you laugh. He had great stories to tell. Doyle was an intelligent man, always calm and quiet, he could always see things for the way they were. Doyle provided for his family, wife, his son Jacob and stepdaughter Jennifer. He also raised and provided home for four grandchildren, Samantha, Mercedes, Raquel and Russell. Doyle had a strong faith in Christ growing up in the Free Methodist Church, Indiana. His father was a minister.
He worked for Kansas Communications 23 years in Olathe/Lenexa KS. It was after the millennium 2000 when many Telecom companies went out of business that he pursued a career with Swift Trucking based out of Shawnee KS earning his CDL and driving a cross country tractor/trailer. After Swift and with his CDL he began a career with Laidlaw Transit. Laidlaw was purchased by First Group America and went into Public Transportation with Laidlaw Transit/First Transit of Olathe, Kansas.
Doyle earned many certificates throughout his career in the telecom and bus transportation fields. He joined Laidlaw Transit and First Transit/First Group where he was currently employed for the past 18 years. He served as a Trainer for new drivers and employees, and was a Road Supervisor with the Safety Department. He helped with monthly Safety meetings. He managed D.O.T. compliance management of all employees. He drove for First Transit as a bus driver until managing the Safety Department. Then in July, 2014 Doyle became Assistant General Manager/Operations Manager with First Transit Inc. Doyle’s tenure with First Transit required him to wear many hats. He was dedicated to the success of First Transit on all levels. His rapport with employees and stakeholders was a vital part of making First Transit a success in Johnson County, Kansas. His insight into current and future needs of the company aided the management team to stay progressive, meeting the needs of clients and ridership partners. His contributions were a key part in helping First Transit to be recognized as a valued service provider within Johnson County, Kansas.
Doyle is survived by his loving wife, Gwyneth (Starmer) Wesley, his son Jacob Wesley, and stepdaughter Jennifer Gill. Doyle is survived by brother Gary Wesley (wife Linda, with their four children Lee Anne, Laurie, Jeffery, and Kurtis) of Indiana; by his sister Teresa (husband Victor Keefe, with three children Angela, Christine, and Patricia) of Missouri; survived by youngest sibling, Timothy (wife Debbie, and two children Kimberly and Christopher) of Indiana.
