CDR Michael Omatsu, USCG (Ret.)
December 13, 1951 – November 4, 2021

Michael proudly served 22 years in the Coast Guard as an officer. His career took him many places around the world as a deck officer, dive officer and to St. Louis in recruiting command. He retired in 1999 from the pay center in Topeka, KS.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Michael was very proud of their accomplishments and many talents. He enjoyed sharing his cooking, fishing, sports, WWII and 442 history museums and walks in nature with them.

Michael volunteered with the NRA, Convention of States, and Japanese American Veteran’s Association. He was passionate about patriotism and honoring those who served their country.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Yasumi and Miyeko Omatsu. He is survived by Susan Omatsu, Anna (Bryan) Raymer, Leslie (Daniel) Crouch, grandchildren Xander, Mina, Emily, Cooper, Collin, and Evie. Patrick Omatsu, Stephen Omatsu, and Sean Omatsu. Sheila Sumpter, Elizabeth (Zachary) Burns, grandchildren Gwendolyn and Vera.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday November 17th at the American Legion (410 E Dennis Ave, Olathe, KS 66061). Service starts at 5:30 with a light meal to follow. If you wish to honor Michael by attending services in Olathe, wear a ballcap with your service affiliation or show your red, white, and blue. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the charity of your choice.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 23rd 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Jefferson-Barracks National Cemetery (2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO 63125). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 23rd 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Cemetery & Cremation Services (50 Fountain Dr, Glen Carbon, IL 62034).
