In Memory Of
Evelyn Marie Steele
1931 - 2021

She had a pep in her step,
A song in her soul,
A saying for the moment,
A dance in her feet,
A drink in her glass,
A prayer on her heart
And boundless love for her family.

Melanie Miller, granddaughter

On September 3rd, our beloved mother, Evelyn Steele, passed away peacefully. She was born Evelyn Marie Coleman on June 3rd, 1931. She is survived by three children, Deborah (John) Holland, Randy (Kathy) Steele, Kevin (Shelly) Steele and eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Melanie, Shannon, Kristen, Ben, Jason, Emma and Daphne as well as 15 great grandchildren.

She was born to Clyde Brickley and Catherine Arthurs Coleman in Blackwell, Oklahoma where she met and married her husband of 72 years. Norman was in the grocery business and they settled in Coffeyville, Kansas. As a resident of Coffeyville for over 50 years, she made many dear friends through her membership in the First Presbyterian Church, PEO and her volunteer work at Coffeyville Memorial Hospital. She was a dedicated wife and partner and worked alongside her husband for many years at their family restaurant and grocery businesses. Five foot two with brown eyes and beautiful wavy hair, our stylish mom was fun loving with boundless energy and optimism. Her universe revolved around her family and her desire to help others. Christmas at her house was magical, creating memories filed with love, music and smells of delicious food from the kitchen, she taught us how to dance, the importance of being grateful and how everything can’t always be seen, so just move forward in faith. We are strong because of her and deeply grateful for the love, beauty and joy she brought to our lives. She will be missed and forever loved.

Donations can be sent to Meals on Wheels (Senior Services of Southeast Kansas, Inc.) in Evelyn’s name.
