In Memory Of
Adelene (Wiglesworth) Decker
1927 - 2021

Adelene (Wiglesworth) Decker, 93, went home to Jesus on August 30, 2021.

The seventh of 10 children, Adelene was born to Grover Cleveland and Charlotte Ruth (Yulich) Wiglesworth on December 19, 1927 at home in Kansas City, Kansas. She grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Rosedale High School in 1946. In her youth, she worked at Forum Cafeteria, Folgers Coffee, and a telephone company as a switchboard operator. As an adult, she enjoyed a long career for over 25 years working in central supply for Shawnee Mission Hospital.

In 1948, Adelene married the love of her life, Joseph William Decker. They had three daughters, Judy Ann Decker Hunter, Joanne Marie Decker Fritz, and Peggy Sue Decker Hester. Adelene and Joe enjoyed a long and happy marriage for 47 years until Joe’s passing in 1995.

In life, Adelene was passionate about God, family, gardening, and staying active. Her deep faith in Christ began as a child and she found assurance of her salvation in 1959. She could often be heard humming her favorite hymns, How Great Thou Art, Great is Thy Faithfulness, and Blessed Assurance, while puttering around the house or digging in her garden. She was an avid reader, a wiz at Sudoku puzzles, and could beat anyone in a game of chess or Scrabble. Watching birds and playing with her beloved cat Tiger were also some of her favorite pastimes. Blessed with 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, Adelene loved to host her family and made sure everyone had something to eat at all times. She was well loved and will be greatly missed.

In her last weeks of life, Adelene was under the care of very special people at Maggie’s Place Memory Care in Colonial Village of Overland Park, Kansas. The nurses and staff of Olathe Medical Center Hospice House took very loving care of Adelene in her final few days.

Adelene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and all but one of her siblings. She is survived by her sister Shirley Wiglesworth Bowman; her daughters and her sons-in-law Judy and John Hunter, Joanne and Michael Fritz, and Peggy and Michael Hester; and all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandson.

The family asks that any flowers or condolences are sent to 1209 E. Meadow Lane, Olathe, Kansas 66062. Please also consider a donation in Adelene’s name to Compassion International.

There will be a private graveside service for the family.
