In Memory Of
Sarah Christine Jurgens
1981 - 2021

Sarah Christine (Bonebrake) Jurgens, 40, of Olathe, passed away on August 29, 2021 at home surrounded by her family.

Sarah fought until the very end exceeding expectations at every step, just like she has for the last 4 years battling cancer and for that matter her whole life. Sarah lived her life like a portion of a verse from 1 Corinthians 13. “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance”. ENDURES THROUGH EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE. Such a powerful phrase for such a powerful woman. She faced so many overwhelming circumstances and always had a smile and positive attitude when she seemingly had every complication one could have from all the various treatments you could throw at her cancer. She earned the label “sunshine” by one of the dr admins because she was always smiling, always positive. So truly fitting for her. She strived to radiate gods love to others. Even in death she was absolutely glowing with a smile on her face, we have to think she knew that she had radiated to all who knew her and that she had carried the cross like Jesus asked her to do years ago. The sunshine has new meaning for people who knew her.

She was born on January 30, 1981 to David and Mary (Hemmen) Bonebrake in Wichita, KS.

Sarah worked as a Divisional Relationship Manager for Commerce Bank in their commercial card division. She was extremely proud of the fact that Commerce was the only full time employer of her professional career. She started as a teller while attending Wichita State and earned multiple promotions to get to the position she held. She graduated from Wichita State with a Bachelors degree in business administration. Later in life she completed her MBA from the university of Kansas. She completed the entire program while undergoing various treatments for cancer. She never let the side effects impact her from completing work on time and was proud that she earned A’s in every class.

On July 1, 2006, she married Darick Alan Jurgens and they made their home in Olathe, Kansas and later with their 2 children Drew and Cooper. She was a proud devoted mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She was a great mom and her legacy will carry on with them.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic church, where prior to Covid she spent most Friday evenings in the adoration chapel in the presence of Jesus. She had a love of riding horses, often saying that on the back of a horse was her “happy place”. She was a devoted Washington Capitals fan and would travel several times a year to watch games in person, including game 3 of the 2018 Stanley Cup finals. She loved music and spent time playing the piano, going to musicals, and listening mostly Taylor Swift anytime she was driving. She was also an admin in a support group for cervical cancer recurrence and took many woman under her wing offering words of encouragement and guidance on her experiences with the different treatments/trials she undertook ultimately looking to be cured, but also to make things easier for the next wonder woman in her shoes.

Sarah is survived by her loving husband, Darick, her children Drew and Cooper, her parents, David and wife Sharon Bonebrake and Mary and husband Don Williams, her sister Leslie and husband DJ Profit, and their children, Hunter, Logan, Jaxon, and Ben. Her father in law Kenny and Michelle Jurgens, mother in law Lynette Jurgens, sister in law Aimee and Todd Semin and child Seth, and brothers in law Kole and Kody Jurgens.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Wayne and Margot Hemmen, Albena “Beanie” and Bill McComb, and Gene Bonebrake. Grandparents in law Harvey and Wiona Jurgens and Earnest and Anna Jobman.
