Betty grew up in the Waldo area of Kansas City, Missouri where she graduated from Ruhl-Hartman High School. On March 9, 1951, she was united in marriage to Nolan D. Thompson. They were married for 53 years. Betty enjoyed playing bridge, Theatre in the Park, and most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was dearly loved by her entire family.
Betty is survived by her children, Mark Thompson (Gail) of Nixa, Missouri, Kent Thompson (Paula) of Olathe, Kansas, and Beth Erickson (Mike) of Olathe, Kansas; eight grandchildren Becky Waddell, Jeff Thompson, Jenni Gerhauser, David Thompson, Drew Thompson, Daniel Thompson, Matthew Erickson and Dale Erickson; sixteen great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Larry Vance (Margaret) of Chillicothe, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Nolan, and two brothers Lester and Gene Vance.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 2:00pm to 3:00pm on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Penwell-Gabel's Olathe Chapel, followed by the funeral service at 3:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to either the Salvation Army of Olathe or to the Colonial Presbyterian Church.
