In Memory Of
Marceda Maxine Bevins
1935 - 2021

Marceda Maxine Bevins, 85, of Olathe, Kansas passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021. She was born in Grundy County, Whitten RFD, Iowa on July 20, 1935 to Kenneth Alexander Beeghly and Elizabeth Beryl VanVoltenberg.

Marceda grew up on the family farm in Conrad, Iowa. She graduated from Conrad High School in 1953 and then received her cosmetology license in Des Moines, Iowa. Marceda married her first husband, Bill Reed, in 1961 and lived on the west coast until their divorce in 1963. Marceda moved back to Des Moines where she worked as a cosmetologist and waitress. She met her second husband, Patrick John Bevins, at a hotel where they both worked, she as a waitress and he as a chef. They married in 1965 and then lived in Davenport, Iowa; South Bend, Indiana; and Evansville, Indiana before settling in Olathe, Kansas. Marceda and Patrick both worked at Blue Hills Country Club. Marceda was a Cub Scout Den Leader and loved playing board games, Dungeons and Dragons (where she was an epic dungeon master), and doing puzzles. She loved to travel and her favorite destinations included old barns and covered bridges that she loved to see. She was also an avid reader and loved to visit used book stores and library book sales. Marceda then worked as a dietary aide for Delmar Gardens in several locations in Kansas City until her retirement. She loved professional basketball and would study the stats of the stars of the league (especially her favorite teams the Spurs and OKC Thunder) and recite them as a brain exercise. She loved sitting on her back porch and watching birds eat the peanuts she left for them and complaining of the squirrels who stole them away.

Marceda is survived by her loving children, Brent Bevins, George Bevins and Anne Bevins; four grandchildren, David Bevins, Katelyn Bevins, Leah Bevins, and Patrick Bevins; two sisters, Shirley Beeghly and Linda Tasler; and one brother Harold Hugh Beeghly.

She is preceded in death by her husband Patrick.

The family requests that contributions in Marceda’s memory be made to the University of Kansas Alzheimer's Disease Center at the following web address:
