Rosemarie Caballero Vinton, 88

Overland Park, KS - Rosemarie Caballero Vinton, 88, passed away on May 30, 2021, at her family home.

She was born on April 19, 1933, in Mexico City, Mexico to Ernesto Caballero and Margarita Cardenas Caballero. Ernesto was an accountant at Bundersbank where he met his wife Margarita. He went on to open his own successful accounting firm. They married and had 7 children. All followed in their father’s footsteps pursuing accounting careers except for Rosemarie.

Rosemarie received a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Mexico. At the time, the University was in the most historical part of the city center called “El Zocalo”. Today these buildings have been turned into museums. Her first job out of college was creating vaccines for a pharmaceutical company. Rosemarie’s graduating class of 1956 were a close-knit group of friends and still have 10-year reunions to this day. Rosemarie met her husband, Bill Vinton, at the University of Mexico, where he was studying international business, while he attended Boston University.

On the 4th of July 1958, they were married in Mexico City, Mexico DF. Bill always joked he lost his independence when he married on the 4th of July. They honeymooned in Acapulco, Mexico. This year they would have celebrated 63 years of marriage. Soon after their wedding, Bill’s business employment took them to many different countries including Colombia (Bogota), Ecuador (Quito), Puerto Rico (San Juan), Mexico (Mexico City) and several different states in the United States (Massachusetts, Missouri, Kentucky, Louisiana and Kansas). During this time, they had 6 children -Eddie, Rosemarie, Marta, Audrey, Maggie and Billy. Eventually Bill and Rosemarie settled in Overland Park, Kansas.

Family and friends were always the most important to her. She would do anything for anyone and welcomed all to her home. Rosemarie enjoyed cooking, music, painting, and the arts. She was naturally creative and enjoyed the beauty of nature. Cooking was not her forte when she was first married but as time went on, she truly mastered the art of cooking. Family and friends always came by around dinner time as there would invariably be a fabulous meal on the table almost every night. Everyone was always welcomed and no matter the number of people, she somehow always made it go around.

Rosemarie joined a social group called “Mini Mundo” which was made up of women from many different international backgrounds. She made lifelong friends with many of the women in the group. They went on trips and took part in international cooking classes, dances, art classes, and other cultural events. She always managed to see the beauty in everyday life and the best in people.

She and Bill enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Europe, South America, and the Middle East. She enjoyed learning about different cultures, cuisines, history and people in general. From these experiences, Rosemarie developed an excellent palate for flavors and wine.

Rosemarie’s faith was very important to her. She attended mass every week and her faith kept her strong during her illness. Many of her friends were unaware of the extent of her illness as she did not want to burden or worry them. She did not want to be defined by her illness.

Rosemarie was the life and soul of her family -always calming and warm. She was a loving wife, wonderful mother, a great friend and a true lady loved by all who met her.

Rosemarie lives on through her loving husband, Bill, and her children Eddie and wife Alicia Vinton of Olathe, KS; Rosemarie Bryer of Wymondham, England; Marta Vinton of Overland Park, KS; Audrey Hayes of Overland Park, KS; Maggie and husband Lance Cowell of Leawood, KS; Billy Vinton of Overland Park, KS; 4 grandchildren John David Bryer Jr., Will and Alex Vinton, and Parker Cowell; and siblings Gloria Caballero, Lili Caballero and Estela and husband Beto Marin of Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ernesto and Margarita Caballero and siblings Ernesto Caballero, Alicia and husband Francisco Gonzales, Carlos Caballero and son-in-law John Bryer of England.
