Afton Michelle Pyle
1982 - 2021

Afton Michelle Pyle, 39, passed away April 21, 2021 after fighting a courageous, two-year battle with colon cancer.

Known as the 'dog whisperer,' Afton never met a dog she didn't like. She volunteered for 14 years at Ingham County Animal Control, working with her father to show both dogs and cats available for adoption on Channel 6, earning the Humanitarian Award, and later the Volunteer Forever Award. She was an avid MSU Women's Basketball fan, and had a penchant for colorful words, tie-dye, garage sales, and eating out. She was employed by MSU and Peckham Industries. Sincere thanks to Heartwood School and staff for offering her the education and social experiences she always treasured; she gleefully walked at graduation to "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Thanks as well to Residential Options and staff for supporting her independent living experience. Always compassionate and perceptive, Afton could give meaningful hugs and encouragement to those in need.

Afton is survived by her parents, Bob and Deanna; brothers James and Rick (Lisa); and nieces Jillian and Ashlyn; as well as her best friend forever, Amy, and beloved roommate, Jo. Her dearly loved Pomeranian, Misty, predeceased her. Special thanks to Darrell and Becky, and the multitude of friends and family who offered support during her illness.

An October memorial service is tentatively planned for Lansing, Michigan.
