Nadia F. Cassady
1933 - 2020

Nadia Fedoryshyn Cassady, currently of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on Nov 12, 2020 at the age of 87. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald Cassady, who passed away less than a month ago. Nadia was born in Horoshowa, Ukraine to Anna and William Fedoryshyn.

Her family immigrated to the United States when Nadia was 5 years old. She grew up in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in a home built by her father. She was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and the University of Massachusetts
where she received her bachelor’s degree in bacteriology and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.

Nadia met Don at Eli Lilly & Co., where she was a bacteriologist and he was a chemist. Don and Nadia married on July 13, 1957 and settled into life in Indianapolis, Indiana, raising three children. After Don’s career change to become a Patent Attorney, Nadia and family moved to Johnson City, Tennessee (1969), Lenexa, Kansas (1976), Littleton, Colorado (1979), Corpus Christi, Texas (1983). When Don retired, they moved back to the Kansas City area so they could live closer to their daughter Cathy Kearns.

Nadia was a talented musician and played violin in the orchestra at the University of Massachusetts and the symphony orchestra in Johnson City, Tennessee. She also enjoyed playing piano, banjo, mandolin and the balalaika. She was an accomplished seamstress, having grown up making her own clothes, as well as designing and sewing clothing for her daughters and granddaughters. She enjoyed creating unique crafts that she shared with others and sold through consignment shops and craft fairs.

Nadia will be lovingly remembered by her son David Cassady (Cathi) of Harlingen, TX; two daughters: Cathy Kearns (Lee) of Olathe, KS and Christine Reder (Steve) of Centennial, CO; sister Dorothy Strand (John) of Orange, CA; 6 grandchildren: Andrew, Jennifer, Megan, Jeremy, Joshua, and Rebecca; as well as extended family in the United States and Ukraine. No services are planned.
