Diane Kay (Martin) Cosper
28-June-1964 – 29-October-2020

Diane was born to Albert and Vivian Martin on 28-June-1964 in Kansas City, Missouri. Diane was the third child out of four: David, Steven, Diane, and Daniel. Diane is survived by her husband, Mark, and their two children, Zachary Cosper and Kathryn (Cosper) Hubbs and her husband, Jacob, who are expecting their first baby in February 2021. Diane was raised in Johnson County, Kansas where she lived for most of her life.

Diane enjoyed being the cutest of the children with her blonde curls and pretty dresses. Being the only granddaughter on her mother’s side and the only close granddaughter on her father’s side, she enjoyed little competition from her brothers and cousins when it came to attention from her grandparents. She was the apple of her father’s eye and her brothers’ too when they weren’t teasing her.

She was a tiny girl and at least once she was late to school since she was unable to open the heavy school doors, much to her chagrin. She really enjoyed her high school years where she played in the band, and she participated in nearly every one of the activities sponsored by her church youth group. After graduating high school in 1982, she attended Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. Diane then continued her education and finished with her Masters Degree in Education with a specialty in reading in 1986.

While in college Diane met her future husband, Mark Cosper. They were married on December 19, 1987 at her home church in Overland Park, Kansas. Diane and her husband set up their first home in Bethany, Oklahoma but soon moved to Tulsa (Jenks), Oklahoma. While living in Jenks they were actively involved in their church there and made many close friends.

With their growing family, Diane and Mark moved back to Overland Park, Kansas to be close to her parents and family. She enjoyed visiting her parents often and played many Scrabble games with her mother, Vivian. Diane was a very competitive player, but that may have been an outcome of being raised with three brothers. Diane was a good mother and saw that each of her children were raised in a Christian home.

Diane renewed many of her childhood friendships when she moved back to her hometown, but she also developed many new friends due to her active involvement at church. Diane and Mark served in the Quest ministry and were actively involved as mentors in the youth ministry at the College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas for 18 years.

While Diane did teach for several years, she eventually transitioned to be an office manager for the congregation of College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas. She was always well-organized and much appreciated by the pastors she served. During this time, Vivian encouraged Diane to complete her testing and became a member of Mensa International, the high IQ society. Diane joined Mensa in November 2008, completed her Proctor training in 2010 and began administering testing. She served on the board as Secretary and a Member at Large for two years, during 2011 and 2012. Again, proof she was the smartest person in the family, to the delight of her parents.

Words cannot express the sorrow of losing such a devoted wife, loving mother, and beloved daughter, sister, and friend. Her faith was in her Lord Jesus Christ and the redemption He provides for those who love Him and follow His Word. Diane will be missed, but her family and friends take comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

II Corinthians 5:6-8
6 Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord –
7 for we walk by faith, not by sight –
8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Quest Youth Mission Trip at College Church of the Nazarene, 2020 E. Sheridan, Olathe, KS 66062.
