In Memory Of
Sarah B. Seay
1946 - 2020

Sarah Barbara Seay (maiden name Dallas), 74, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020. Born on February 5, 1946 to David Dallas and Margaret Jean Caskey in Parsons, KS, Sarah was well-traveled. She grew up in Manhattan, KS, and always marched to the beat of her own drum quite literally, as she played drums growing up. She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1964 and attended Kansas State University, graduating with a B.A. in History in 1968 and was a Delta Zeta sorority sister. She served in the Navy in 1969-1970 as a commissioned officer and moved to Whidby Island, WA, where she met and married then-husband Roy and gave birth to five daughters. Sarah later moved back to Manhattan, KS, and then Lawrence, KS, and obtained her diploma in Office Technology from Manhattan Area Vocational-Technical school in 1992. She raised her five girls as a single parent, working as an administrative assistant for several years in Kansas University’s French and Italian Language Department. Later, she worked as a paraeducator just before retiring. After her youngest child left home, Sarah traveled to be near family, staying in Utah, Maize and Valley Center, KS, South Dakota, and then settling in the Kansas City area.

Sarah was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed time with her grandkids, and was an active member of the LDS church. She had many interests, but in her later years, she appreciated the simple things in life: conversation, food, a good book or movie, and walks. Sarah had a silly sense of humor and loved her “snicky snacks” as she called her favorite sweets. Never selfish, she always helped family members in need, and was always generous with hugs. Sarah was a gentle and patient person, open-minded, easygoing, and nonjudgmental. Many people who met Sarah described her with the same word: “sweet.” She will be greatly missed.

Sarah is survived by her daughters, Barbara Seay of Wichita, KS, Mary Bastian of Olathe, KS, Emily Seay of Joplin, MO, Laura Sapp of Lexington Park, MD, and Larissa Seay Dashjian of Benicia, CA; 13 grandchildren; and sister Jean Noland of Coos Bay, OR.

She is preceded in death by her parents, David Dallas and Margaret Jean Caskey; sister, Gloria Rae Huet; and grandson Isaac Henry Sapp.

A private viewing and service will be held for family members on Saturday, October 24th.

The family asks that any donations in Sarah’s memory be made to the ASPCA or The Humane Society.
