Gerard Allen (Jerry) Blume, 77, of Olathe, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife, Rita and son, Matthew on October 11, 2020.

Jerry was born on January 14, 1943 to Arthur and Rose (Marr) Blume in St. Louis, MO. On November 18, 1967 he and Rita Patricia Blume (Reintjes) were married and began their 53 year journey together. The highlight of that wonderful journey were the births of their children, Matthew Gerard and Molly Rose.

Jerry began his work life in the Marine Corps and was very proud of having served. After the Corps, he became a police officer in Prairie Village, KS. He then worked as an Air Traffic Controller, and finally worked for the George P. Reintjes Co. in Kansas City, MO.

Jerry had many interests: fishing, gardening, bee keeping, and coin collecting. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling to wonderful locations with Rita, Michael and Sheri. He especially loved doing things with his grandchildren: Joe, Meara, Maggie and Morgan Duffy, and Jackson and Eli Blume.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Molly Rose Duffy. Also preceding him were his parents, his brothers, Arthur and Richard, and sister, Donna. He is also being welcomed into heaven by Michael Reintjes and nephew, Sean Reed.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020,10:00AM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Olathe, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, or Wounded Warriors.
