In Memory Of
Barbara "Barb" Jo Keller
1957 - 2020

Barbara “Barb” Jo Keller, 63, of Lenexa, passed away from a long illness on October 6, 2020. She was born on June 13, 1957 in St. Louis Missouri.

In 2013, she retired early from Farmers insurance / FIG Credit Union after being with the company since 1977 (36.5 years).

Barb battled with type one diabetes since 1962. She fought back in sickness many time over the last ten years - she was strong. When they had to amputate her right leg in December, she jokingly told her doctors, nurses, friends and relatives that the shark got it.

Barb was so proud and happy with love, when Todd, our son, was born. She loved being a mother. She went to all of Todd’s baseball, basketball, and soccer games. She provided Guidance and support to him all his life.

Her granddaughter, Aleena, was born on December 28, 2009 and was the love of Barb’s life. Aleena calls her, “Mimi.” Barb was so proud of Aleena. Aleena would show Mimi how to use the iPad and help her with clothes shopping. She is so special to Barb.

Barb is very close to her cousins in the Saint Louis County area, Texas and Ohio. They were more like sisters and brother to her. They were always supporting Barb and our small family.

We are so thankful to the hospice nurses and their dedication. They worked so hard to treat her and help treat the medical issues. They are a blessing.

We have had so many great years with our transfers / moves with our company. She has friends in Creve Coeur Missouri, St. Louis County Missouri, Woodland Hills California, Thousand Oaks California, Texas, Pocatello Id, Merced California, San Francisco Bay Area, Simi Valley California, Overland Park Kansas, Lenexa Kansas, and Olathe Kansas.

Barb has friends and relatives in almost every state and some out of the country.

One thing she loved was being able to reconnect with friends from high school, former neighbors, and former business colleagues across the country.

Barb went to Parkway North high school in west St. Louis County Missouri, where she graduated in 1975, and then went to Maryville University in Town and Country Missouri.

Barb and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary on August 16. We have been together since 1974.

She is the love of our life; she gave us support, encouragement, and love.

Now she is with our baby, Steve, her mom, dad, my mom, dad, and my brother, Stephen, in heaven.

Love you bubbles (my Nickname for Barb).

Love,

Mike, Todd, and Aleena

Over the coming weeks, we plan to have many gatherings to celebrate Barb’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Barb's memory be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 215 W Pershing Rd #300, Kansas City, MO 64108.
