I will always remember how Ed and Liz happily shared chauffeuring duties with me when our girls went to downtown concerts. It’s true what Erin said about her father. He was always present, always full of joy, and that is why he was a special man. Ed made a difference in many people’s lives, and sadly left too soon. I will always have a memory of him being welcoming and kind to us all. My heart is so sad for both of you.

Dr. Cantrell was our family dentist for almost 30 years. He always had a smile and our appointments felt more like just catching up with family. We will miss you and your family will always be in our thoughts and prayers. The Taylor Family

I will miss Ed.
We worked together daily, and I saw how much he loved teaching and interacting with the students. He was honest and trustworthy. I could count on him and his word! Ed was always willing to help anyone who asked him. Plus he always had a smile on his face! He was a true gentleman.
I thank God that I knew him. He won't be forgotten.
God bless your family.
Prayers are with you.

The entire UMKC family sends you and your family our deepest sympathies. In addition to our personal condolences and prayers, his friends and colleagues at the School of Dentistry’s Department of Restorative Clinical Sciences are keeping you and your family in their thoughts.
Our hearts are broken for you, and we are sending comforting hugs and embraces your way. We struggled in trying to find the words to express our sorrow; no words can convey what is in our hearts. So we hope you can find comfort and peace in Edward’s love that lives on in your memories.
Again, our deepest condolences.
In caring sympathy,
C. Mauli Agrawal

I am so sorry for your loss. As a Cherokee, Broadmoor and SM West classmate of Ed's, I will always remember his generous smile, kind spirit and warmhearted personality. He will be greatly missed. Prayers for your family.

I am extremely sorry to hear about your loss. Dr. Cantrell was one of my favorite faculties to work with at the dental school. He was such a caring person and always have the brightest and biggest smile on his face. He offered to write me a recommendation letter before I even got a chance to ask him. He truly cared about us and constantly gave us assurance for the real world. I appreciated all of his guidance during dental school.
My dear friend and I got to see Dr. and Mrs. Cantrell last month. He drove all the way from Olathe just to meet us in front of the dental school to take graduation pictures and congratulate us. He also wore his favorite Hawaii shirt and we chatted for over an hour. He definitely left indelible impact in all of us. Please accept my deepest condolences. Sending prayers to your family!

Liz and Erin we are lifting you and the family up in prayer for peace at this difficult time. Ed had a great sense of humor and was a kind, caring, knowledgeable friend, Dentist and brother in Christ. We pray that you are comforted by the many sweet memories and the knowledge that you will see him again. Love to you both. Leif and Kim Leaf

I was a classmate of Ed's in dental school. I also occasionally saw him at dental meetings after we graduated. He was such a nice person and always had a smile on his face. We will all miss Ed-Michelle Deutch

Dr. Cantrell was one of the most thoughtful and caring professors I've had at UMKC. His friendly guidance and caring attitude showed that he cared deeply for not only the patients, but the students. We were all like his kids, and he treated us with such respect and made each day a complete joy. He will be missed greatly.

Ed was one of my favorite fellow faculty at the Dental School. He will be missed by both students and faculty alike. So sorry for your loss.
~ Mike Jurkovich, DDS - July 13, 2020
I'll always remember him with that broad smile that never ceased. I'll always remember how he brightened all of our days at Broadmoor Junior High and Shawnee Mission West High School. Thank you, Eddie. I'll always remember you.

Liz and Erin, my heart goes out to you in the loss of your husband and father. Ed was my nephew and I loved him. My two brothers, Joe and Dale and myself were all born within two and one-half years so we were more like triplets. Dale and I were in the same class for 12 years with Joe one year ahead. We lost our Dad when we were 15, 16 and 17. Dale and his wife, Wanda and family lived in Overland Park for many years, as did my family and I and we usually got together at least every 2-3 months to keep up with one another's families. Our daughter, Bonnie was three months younger than her cousin, Ed and they were in the same class at Shawnee Mission West and graduated together in 1979. We saw brother Joe and family once a year at Christmas time. Joe passed away in 2008. Families used to be close but nowadays there are so many distractions that families barely know each other. I miss the times when families were closer. We will keep you in our prayers. I am sorry we could not come to Ed's service but since we are living in a senior facility we do not have that much freedom. Bernice (Bunny) Prediger and hubby, Fred.

Ed made my days in career class special times. He was a very special person and made each day better for everyone.

Hi Liz, I am so sorry for your sudden loss. You and your family have had more than your share of tragedies. I remember Edd from Sunday School class in Daley Chapel at Colonial. I appreciated his depth of thinking.
I posted the prayer request for Edd on the Colonial Career Class alumni Facebook and send out a gmail. I will do the same for this funeral announcement and obituary.
You are definitely in our prayers.

Dr. Cantrell (Ed) was an energetic and admired teacher, colleague, and friend. The students loved and respected him. He was always smiling and supportive. I enjoyed working with him. He is missed.
God bless him and his family!

So many memories of Ed. He was our house sitter when first in college; taking care of Casey cat and Oscar dog as well as the house and yard and plants. Everything in better shape than when we left. Watching him mature from teenage to fine young man. He was special to us. May memories of Ed bring you comfort and healing. Keeping your family in our prayers and our hearts.

Sorry for your loss. I had Ed as a dental student. He was a good, caring student and a warm friendly person. He will be missed by us all.
~ John Gilbert - July 12, 2020
I remember all the Christmases that our family spent at the Cantrell's house (Uncle Dale & Aunt Wanda). The kids would go down into the basement and would play together. Uncle Joe and Aunt Margaret and their children would come and it was always fun. Ed and I both graduated from SM West the same year, but I was in the Marching Band/Concert Band area. He will be missed greatly, this was so sudden and unexpected; words just cannot express the feelings. We will continue to raise Ed's family up in prayer during this difficult time.

We lived next door to the Cantrell's for over four decades. We saw Edd grow up.

When my father unexpectedly passed away during my last year of dental school, Dr. Cantrell showed me such grace and kindness. He looked like and acted like my father. So I always gravitated towards him because it was like being with my dad again. We were supposed to have lunch to say goodbye before I moved away. I'm sad our lunch didn't get to happen. Until we met again, Jessica Sliger.

I did not know Ed well but he shopped at the ark and I saw him at colonial. We were friends on FB. He always had good things to say. I know this was sudden . Your family is in my prayers. May God hold you in his right hand and comfort you.

You will be missed my friend.
~ Terry LOUDERMILL - July 11, 2020
I went to Cherokee, Broadmoor I’m pretty sure I was one of the cheerleaders for the JR High Football Team as well, and West with Edd, while he was the Dental School he was the one that did the procedure, he remembered me from School and was very compassionate! He will be missed! My thoughts a prayers go out to his Wife and Daughter.

I have known the Cantrell family for over 50 years. Eddie, as I first knew him was a very energetic child and always loved to talk. His mother, Wanda and I were in circle together at Valley View United Methodist Church. My husband, Jerry and Dale helped with Boy Scouts. We loved the whole family. I am so sorry for your loss.
