Donnell J. “Don” Dixon passed away on November 4, 2019 after a long bout with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1943 to Thomas and Regina Dixon, he graduated from Kapaun High School and Wichita State University.
Don enjoyed a long and successful career in commercial real estate and retired as Vice President of JC Nichols Co., Kansas City, MO. In his retirement, he volunteered as a docent at the Kansas City Zoo where he put his talent as a photographer and his love for animals to good use. He enjoyed studying all animals but was particularly fond of orangutans. Don’s appreciation for the zoo was instilled in him as a small child by his maternal grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of over 47 years, Jerry Ann; brothers Jim (Niceville, FL) Greg (Olathe, KS) and Terry (Farmers Branch, TX) and many nieces and nephews.
Don was characterized by his sense of humor and quick wit. Throughout his courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease, he maintained his sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to laugh. He will be missed by all!
The family would like to thank Don’s caregivers and St. Luke’s Hospice.
Services will be private.
