Surrounded by loved ones, Susan Warner Smith, 71 of Gardner, KS passed away August 10, 2019 at Olathe Hospice House. Born March 23rd, 1948 in Newport, Rhode Island, Sue was the daughter of Portuguese parents Bernard Cadorette and Flora DuPont.
After high school, Sue enlisted in the U.S. Army as a nurse and worked at Walter Reed Naval Hospital during the Vietnam War. Her working years developed into two careers. She spent over 20 years with ITT as an Electronics Specialist working on both commercial and aerospace equipment. Then spent her last years as Office Manager of Regency Realty, Inc. It was there she not only found a career that suited her highly-organized nature, but the friends she would grow to call family, especially Patty Newson.
Known as sassy and selfless, Sue gave her all to family and friends, never asking for anything in return. Her greatest role in life was being “Mimi” and “Grammy." She was always ready to have a tea party, play Legos, paint a birdhouse or watch a scary movie.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Edward Smith, her daughters Lisa (John) Sutton and Christie (Carl) Carter, her stepchildren Brian (Betty) Smith and Tammy Arrowood, her grandchildren: Courtney, Matthew, AJ, Stella, Olivia, Austin, Josh and Brianna, and her beloved pups Princess and Peaches.
A special recognition goes out to her friend of over 50 years Carolyn Debnam, oh the stories they could tell, and also to Ted and Paula Steen, Dr. Wegele, and the team at Santa Fe Pet Clinic for taking such wonderful care of her pups throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations to be made to Donate Life America, an organization that works towards increasing the number of donated organs, eyes and tissues available to save and heal lives through transplantation. Or better yet, register to become an organ donor. In her final act of kindness, Susan was an organ donor. Passing that kindness forward would be the biggest honor to her memory.
