John Robert Johnston was born on March 6, 1931, to Madge (Dyer) and John Lindquist Johnston in Chariton, Iowa. He passed away on August 7, 2019.
On October 27, 1950, he was united in marriage to Maxine Marie Smith and together they raised three children, Kay, Barbara, and John Lester in Chariton, Iowa.
John was a faithful, lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene in Chariton, Iowa, and Olathe, Kansas. He worked at Johnson’s Machine Works and at the Garfield Junior High School in Chariton, Iowa. He enjoyed working for 30 years with the sound system at the Chariton Nazarene Church.
He is survived by his children, Kay (William) Morrison of Olathe, Kansas, Barbara (David) Najarian of Overland Park, Kansas, and John Lester Johnston of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, John Benjamin (Stella) Johnston, Jacob (Tiffany) Johnston, Rachel (T.J.) Gallagher, and Lisa (Remington) Taylor; and nine great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Johnston; and his parents and grandparents.
The family will have a private service followed by burial in the Chariton Cemetery in Chariton, Iowa.
