Dorothy McBee, 94, of Overland Park, passed away on June 14, 2019 at her home surrounded by her children. She was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on August 15, 1924 to Riley C. and Jessie (Schultz) Briggs. Dorothy grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and met her future husband while working at The Dime Store, where Bill would come in for lunch. Bill and Dorothy were married on April 20, 1943, and would have celebrated their 75th anniversary in 2018. Dorothy worked at Bendex and later as a tax examiner for IRS, but was first and foremost a homemaker and mother. Her family was always her priority and joy. Over the years, Dorothy enjoyed doing ceramics and china painting, sewing and quilting. Dorothy was an avid gardener and loved flowers of all kinds. When Dorothy and Bill first moved to the farm, she enjoyed raising all kinds of animals, bobby calves, geese and ducks. She was a lover of animals, and enjoyed her pets for many years.

Dorothy is survived by her son Bill McBee Jr. (Pat) of Stilwell, daughter Dawn McBee of Overland Park, daughter Lisa McBee (Olathe); grandsons Brad McBee (Stephanie) of Stilwell, Brent McBee (Jill) of Olathe; great-grandchildren Eric (Kyla), Austin, Taylor, Kristin, Will and Catie; and great-great-granddaughter Hailey Grace; brother Wilbur Briggs, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Bill Gene, her parents RC and Jessie Briggs, and brothers Donald, Hubert, Riley Jr., and Melvin Briggs.

The family will receive guests for a visitation from 10:00am - 12:00pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Penwell Gabel Olathe Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm with burial at Aubry Cemetery in Stilwell, Kansas.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Crossroads Hospice.

Memorial contributions may be given to Crossroads Hospice and Children's Mercy Hospital.
